Clutter and Commiseration – A Virtual Decluttering Party
Even decluttering is more fun with your friends!
I’ve combined my one-on-one virtual coaching with the presentations I give to groups to create a Virtual Decluttering Party for you and your friends or family.
I know, you’re thinking, “please no more virtual meetings and get togethers,” so I wanted to make this a worthwhile experience.
To give you a good reason for experiencing flashbacks to the opening to the 1970s television sitcom, The Brady Bunch, (I can’t help it, I think of this with every Zoom meeting) Clutter and Commiseration isn’t about listening to me talk to you about decluttering.
I’m going to get you started on and help you go through the process of getting your stuff in order – real-time decluttering.
And – bonus – you can bring your family or friends along for commiseration, laughter, and roll-your-eyes moments that have you saying, “I’ve had this in there for all these years?!”
Clutter and Commiseration is a private, small group (5-10 individuals) two-hour decluttering session for $300. You handle the invitations, collecting the money, and handle the payment before the program. For your troubles, you’ll get a free, one-on-one, 30-minute consultation with me scheduled after the decluttering party, on the topic or your choice.
All participants get a free guide reviewing the decluttering and organizing process that includes steps for finishing the project (if they couldn’t get it done within the session). Everyone also gets a $10 gift certificate good at A Less Cluttered Life toward downloadable guides, courses, or a private virtual organizing session.

FAQs
What’s the cost of a virtual decluttering party?
The cost is $300 USD for up to ten individuals. If you have five people at your party, the cost is $60 a person. If you have ten people, the cost is $30 a person – some number in between is a dollar amount somewhere in between. I normally charge $60 for one-hour, one-on-one virtual sessions. The length of Clutter and Commiseration is two-hours, so everyone gets to work with a professional organizer for a fraction of the cost.
Why can’t Susan collect the money for me? I’m a one-person shop. Also, you chasing after your friends and family for the money also means you’ll know if your party is going to happen. Even if I sent out a bill to everyone you invite, if the bills weren’t paid, I’d still be contacting you to tell you that the party might not be a go…and you’d still end up going all mean-mom on your guests and telling them to pitch in or no one’s getting a clean closet.
I’ll contact you a week before the virtual party to remind you to collect the funds from your guests. Payment is due 48-hours before the party.
Is it weird to ask my guests to pay for attending an online decluttering party?
If you are the generous sort, you can pay the bill. However, there have been thematic parties, like Paint & Pour, around for a while that ask participants to pay for the instructor’s time and supplies.
When can we schedule a Clutter and Commiseration – Virtual Decluttering Party?
Email me at Susan@ALessClutteredLife.com with two or three dates and the time you’re interested in and what decluttering project you’d like to tackle. Also let me know where you are located so we can figure out the whole time zone thing. I’m an insomniac, but I won’t schedule things during my sleeping hours or too early in my morning. So, pretty much any time between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. EST (if you want to check a time zone calculator).
How many people can participate?
Including yourself, five-to-ten. You can have fewer than five people, but the cost for individuals will be higher since the two-hour session costs $300. Please allow no more than ten people (including yourself) so I can give everyone attention. Yes, you can invite more than ten people and then let them know there are limited spaces. This is also a good incentive for getting people to pay you.
What’s the topic?
Closet organizing is one of my most popular presentations. I also think junk drawers are a fun and useful space to declutter. But, hey, if you and your friends want to focus on another hot spot you all share, I’m game. For ideas, check out the presentations I do.
Why are the presentations cheaper than a party?
The 60-minute presentations I do for libraries, community groups, and adult education are much more talky on my part (there’s a PowerPoint presentation). I do try to get those groups to spend 15-to-20 minutes decluttering. Also, with a party, you get to choose who can see the insides of your closet and laugh with you about those hot pink, sequined leggings you were convinced you’d want to wear to the gym all the time.
Are there party games?
Why, yes there are. From Find the Weirdest Color to What Was I Thinking to Where Did that Come From and the ever hilarious, Why Oh Why Did I Buy This. (Okay, I’m still developing this part of program.)
Where does the party take place?
Everyone stays in their own home because that’s where their stuff is. They’ll set up their device near the area they’ll declutter during the virtual, Zoom party.
What if people aren’t finished at the end of two-hours?
I encourage people to use a Minimal Mess Method so they can still do things like sleep in their bed and walk around the room. Yes, there will be bags of stuff, but I don’t want to leave people with a disaster. After the program I’ll send participants a free guide that talks about finishing their project. A week after the program I’ll even send a friendly email checking in on everyone.
