Overcome Your Biggest Decluttering Roadblock: Your Own Mind

Have you ever felt like your own worst enemy when it comes to making progress on a big project—like decluttering your home?

You know what to do, yet you find yourself reading blog posts and watching videos about decluttering instead of actually decluttering. Maybe you’re searching for confirmation that you’re using the “right” method. Maybe you’re waiting for a spark of motivation to get started. Meanwhile, time passes, and clutter remains.

You can even list the reasons why you’re avoiding action:

❌ Scrolling through Instagram, admiring others’ before-and-after transformations, instead of creating your own.

❌ Telling yourself, “I’ll get to it when life settles down.”

❌ Believing that if you don’t do it perfectly the first time, it’s not worth doing.

❌ Worrying what others will think if you let go of certain items.

❌ Holding onto things because that feels easier than making a decision.

These thoughts and beliefs create invisible barriers that keep you stuck. But here’s the truth: You can shift these barriers out of your way. And one of the most powerful ways to do that is through accountability.

That’s exactly why I created Determined Declutterers: Accountability Support Group.

How It Works

This is a weekly accountability group designed to help you move from intention to action. You set your own decluttering goals based on what you want to accomplish—no rigid plans or one-size-fits-all strategies. But you won’t be doing it alone.

Each week, you’ll:

✅ Identify what you’re working on for the week (and get guidance if you’re unsure where to start).

✅ Set a specific time for decluttering, rather than just “fitting it in.”

✅ Get support, coaching, and encouragement to follow through.

✅ Connect with others who understand your struggles and will cheer you on.

Hi, I'm Susan.

I grew up believing that you should hold onto everything because you might need it someday. Unfortunately, this meant that my parents' house became increasingly crowded, making it an unwelcoming and stressful place. As an adult, I spent a lot of time trying to figure out the best way to organize and store all this stuff for them.

But when I emptied my parents' house, I realized that we'd prioritized the stuff over our own wellbeing. So much stuff was unused ... I kept rolling my eyes, wondering what my parents had been thinking by keeping this stuff. Then I took a look at my possessions. Oof.

I decluttered my stuff, became a professional organizer, and then realized I wanted to help others clear their thoughts about the clutter.
