Tour the storage spaces in and around your home – the attic, garage, basement, shed, spare room, or that scary corner in a room you use. If you could clean and organize a single location over the next couple of weeks, which one of those spaces would you work on?
Why have you chosen that area? If someone has nagged you to declutter, say, the garage, but you’re okay with the space as is, using “I have to,” as your ‘why’ is setting yourself up for failure.
On the other hand, if you’re trying to convince yourself that you’re okay with the mess because you don’t know where to start, look for a benefit to getting the space and its contents under control. For today, simply think about why it would be great to declutter one of these storage areas.
