When you cleared your kitchen counter, did you find yourself wondering why stuff landed in this space as opposed to where it belongs?
The answer isn't always obvious, in part because the solution isn't always in the item you're holding. For example, if kitchen gadgets accumulate on the counter, why don't they get put away? When you open the drawer where you think they should be stored, you discover that there's no space. The problem isn't entirely with the items on the counter ... it's with those in the drawer. The task ahead isn't, "put away gadgets" but "declutter gadget drawer." You might be frustrated to discover this new task, but it happens all the time. Check out this article on why you can't complete one task until you do something else.
