It can take a while to see progress when decluttering. This can be discouraging. Today's action can help you experience the spaciousness you want to feel in your home.
Clear away items and create an empty shelf somewhere in your home. (This idea is from Gretchen Rubin’s book Happier at Home.)
This small empty space can create the feeling of possibility.
I had a couple of empty shelves in my closet come in handy after a houseguest moved in recently. I was able to shift items out of the space our guest would occupy and move them onto the empty shelves with minimal fuss.
The problem is that I no longer have my empty shelves! (Not the type of possibility I was thinking of; but, the space had a practical application.)
